Fine Free Forever
Beginning September 1st, 2018, the Havana Public Library District will no longer charge daily fines for any of their materials. Patrons will only have to pay for items they lose or damage.
Additionally, the checkout period for books and audiobooks will lengthen to 21 days. Magazines and new books will checkout for 14 days. DVDs will continue to checkout for 7 days. Patrons should be aware the rules of the Reaching Across Illinois Library System dictate that the Havana Public Library District cannot waive fines on materials from other system libraries.
The decision to go fine-free fulfills the Havana Public Library District’s mission to support the educational needs of the community and foster lifelong learning. Going fine-free is also part of a larger accessibility initiative to remove any obstacles young people may have to accessing the library and the many resources available through its services. Theis accessibility initiative also includes a partnership with the teachers and principals of Havana District 126 to provide every student with a public library card.
